Local residents, historians, heritage advocates, artists and civic leaders are all coming together to urge the NSW Government to apply the brakes to their Parramatta North Urban Renewal proposals. A public rally is organised for Saturday, February 21, where they will demand protection of Australia’s national heritage, the reopening of the consultation process and full disclosure. Following is information from the flyer published by the recently formed North Parramatta Residents Action Group, which is organising the rally.
Parramatta is the birthplace of our modern nation.
Did you know the Government is rushing to sell this unique public precinct to developers with no Built Heritage Management Strategy in place? Who will own the buildings? What will guide their preservation, funding and future management?
UrbanGrowth NSW’s PNUR proposal seeks approval for:
- 4,100 apartments up to 30 storeys adjacent to Conservation areas
- A huge loss of public land
- Increased urban density with no plans to manage increased traffic
- Rezoning of the public heritage oval to private recreational use and loss of Parramatta Memorial Pool
Saturday, February 21, 1pm, Lions Club Hall, 42A Ross Street, North Parramatta
Help put the brakes on this misguided plan. Come to the Rally to demand that our elected representatives, request more time and genuine, widespread consultation. Your support will help create a better vision for your community and all Australians, now and for future generations.
