In her meticulously researched book Passion Purpose Meaning – Arts Activism in Western Sydney, Katherine Knight records the cultural struggles that have formed the dynamic and complex arts scene that is greater western Sydney today. It makes the powerful case that the vast sprawl from the inner west to the Blue Mountains is now proud home to a dynamic and culturally diverse arts community including the Blacktown Arts Centre, the indigenous Wagana dance company and the Sydney Sacred Music Festival.
Since release in 2013, the book has received an enthusiastic response.
“. . . Its messages have resonances far beyond western Sydney” – Dr Peter Shergold, Chancellor of University of Western Sydney.
